Funding Your Degree

Graduate study is a significant investment, and we're committed to helping you explore a range of funding options. From departmental scholarships to financial aid and graduate employment, there are multiple ways to support your education.

Departmental Scholarships

McIntire awards scholarships to incoming students who demonstrate:

  • Exceptional academic and/or professional achievement
  • Unique personal or professional backgrounds
  • Distinct perspectives
  • Leadership or leadership potential in the face of adversity
  • Financial need

To be considered, submit your scholarship application as part of the program application. Priority will be given to those who apply by the March 5 deadline. Requests for scholarship consideration received after the deadline will be considered if funding remains available.

Employer-Based Tuition Assistance

The M.S. in the Management of IT program delivers immediate, tangible value to employers—so it’s no surprise that many students receive financial support from their organizations. As you explore your options, consider the following:

  • Corporate tuition assistance: Many companies offer formal tuition assistance plans. Your HR or benefits office can provide details on what support is available.

  • Government employee programs: Federal employees may qualify for leadership or management development funding through their agency. In some cases, agencies will sponsor individual courses using Form 1556.

  • Departmental funding: Since project teams and departments often benefit directly from the expertise you gain in the program—or from projects completed as part of your coursework—they may be willing to contribute partial or full funding.

University Financial Aid Resources

UVA’s Student Financial Services provides support in meeting financial obligations through various programs:

Federal Financial Aid

Graduate students are considered independent and must submit both:

  • The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • The UVA Financial Aid Application (UFAA), available in your Student Information System (SIS) once your FAFSA is received

Tip: Complete both forms early. The FAFSA becomes available each year on Oct. 1

Loans

Both need-based and non–need-based loan programs are available. UVA can guide you through:

  • Federal loan eligibility
  • Understanding loan terms

Commonly used private loan options (Note: UVA does not endorse specific private lenders.)

Veterans Benefits

UVA proudly supports veterans, service members, and their families through a dedicated team in the Office of the University Registrar, which serves as the liaison to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. For assistance, contact veteransbenefits@virginia.edu.

Private Loans

The Office of Student Financial Services can help families understand the key features of various funding programs and explain how the application process works. While the office can share information about private loan options commonly used by UVA students, it does not offer specific recommendations. Families are encouraged to evaluate options based on their individual financial circumstances and needs.

Tuition Payment Plan

UVA offers an interest-free semester-based payment plan to help families spread out tuition payments. Details are available through Student Financial Services.
