Approximately one-fourth of M.S. in Global Commerce students receive a departmental scholarship, with awards typically ranging from $2,500 to $10,000+. To be considered, submit your scholarship application as part of the program application. Priority will be given to those who apply by the Feb. 1 deadline. Requests for scholarship consideration received after the deadline will be considered if funding remains available.

Graduate Student Employment

Many M.S. in Global Commerce students choose to work part time while completing their degree. On-campus job opportunities are posted through Handshake, UVA’s job platform, typically over the summer. Positions may include:

  • Research or course assistance with faculty

  • Tutoring

  • Departmental support

Graduate interns are paid an average of $13 per hour and typically work 5-15 hours per week.

University Financial Aid Resources

UVA’s Student Financial Services provides support in meeting financial obligations through various programs:

Federal Financial Aid

Graduate students are considered independent and must submit both:

  • The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • The UVA Financial Aid Application (UFAA), available in your Student Information System (SIS) account once your FAFSA is received

Tip: Complete both forms early. The FAFSA becomes available each year on Oct. 1.

Loans

Both need-based and non–need-based loan programs are available. UVA can guide you through:

  • Federal loan eligibility
  • Understanding loan terms
  • Commonly used private loan options (Note: UVA does not endorse specific private lenders.)

Veterans Benefits

UVA proudly supports veterans, service members, and their families through a dedicated team in the Office of the University Registrar, which serves as the liaison to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. For assistance, contact veteransbenefits@virginia.edu.

Private Loans

The Office of Student Financial Services can help families understand the key features of various funding programs and explain how the application process works. While the office can share information about private loan options commonly used by UVA students, it does not offer specific recommendations. Families are encouraged to evaluate options based on their individual financial circumstances and needs.

Tuition Payment Plan

UVA offers an interest-free semester-based payment plan to help families spread out tuition payments. Details are available through Student Financial Services.
