About me:
Hey there, everyone! I’m Tommy Qu, now a fourth-year student at McIntire, concentrating in Finance, double-majoring in Mathematics, and minoring in Computer Science. Home for me is NOVA, and I graduated from Flint Hill in Oakton, VA.
This past summer, I had the opportunity to work as a software engineer at three different companies. While my work was primarily technical, I realized how much McIntire had prepared me for the challenges. Although I didn’t directly apply business knowledge day to day, the soft skills I gained at McIntire—like communication, teamwork, and adaptability—were essential in navigating fast-paced environments and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Outside of academics, I love staying active at the gym, hiking the beautiful trails nearby, cooking and baking, and relaxing with a good movie. Whether it’s getting outside or experimenting in the kitchen, I’ve found that McIntire’s supportive community allows me to balance school with my personal passions. Being a part of McIntire means not just excelling in the classroom but also having the space to pursue what you love outside of it.
McIntire has been a transformative experience. From discussion-based classes to tight-knit blocks, it’s been the perfect environment to develop both personally and professionally. Whether you’re curious about internships, balancing school and work, life at McIntire, or even a restaurant recommendation, feel free to reach out! I’m always happy to chat.
Fun fact: I’m an avid watcher of Korean films, and I’ve competed in many video game tournaments. I also play the violin!
