About me:
Hi! My name is Sally Anne Houk, and I am a fourth-year at McIntire, concentrating in Finance and Management, with a minor in Art History! I am from Atlanta, GA, and as much as I love the Georgia Bulldogs, I have always been a Hoo at heart. I pursued a degree in Commerce because it not only emphasizes my aptitude for fostering connections, but it also offers an invigorating challenge for my problem-solving skills.
Outside of the classroom, I am involved in various organizations on Grounds. I am a Senior Analyst for the Global Macro Team of SWS. I sit as Marketing Chair of the largest student-led organization on Grounds, Pancakes for Parkinson's Club, and I am the Social Media and Outreach Chair for the nonprofit organization, Greek4Good. I also am the treasurer of my sorority, Kappa Kappa Gamma.
This past summer, I enjoyed being an Investor Relations Intern for Roark Capital, an Atlanta‐based private equity firm with $38 billion in assets under management. Roark focuses on investments in consumer and business service companies, with a specialization in franchise and franchise-like business models. I plan to follow a career in this industry after graduation.
I enjoy spending my free time exercising outdoors, hanging out with my friends, and exploring new places around Charlottesville. I especially enjoy trying new restaurants in Charlottesville and seek those with matchboxes—to add to my growing collection of matches. I also love traveling, and I had the opportunity to indulge in both my love for art history and explore new places during a six-week host school program in Austria.
My favorite aspect of my experience in McIntire thus far has been the warm reception and the meaningful connections I have had the privilege of forming with the incredibly welcoming community.
Fun fact: I overcame my fear of heights this summer and went skydiving in Interlaken, Switzerland. I jumped out of a plane at 13,000 feet!
