
Scott Pioli
Former NFL Executive—Special Advisor to Virginia Athletics
Scott Pioli is a nationally respected former NFL executive whose 30-plus year career includes five Super Bowl appearances, three Super Bowl championships, four AFC Championships, one NFC Championship, and nine Division titles. Pioli has consistently proven himself a top-tier professional executive and is widely recognized as one of the key architects of the Patriots dynasty. As the VP of Player Personnel of the New England Patriots, he played a pivotal role in the drafting of Tom Brady and 12 other Pro Bowler players while helping shape one of the most successful eras in NFL history.
Pioli’s professional contributions have earned him widespread recognition and distinction. He has been awarded the prestigious NFL Executive of the Year title five times and has been honored as the NFL's Executive of the Decade by ESPN, Sports Illustrated, and Sporting News. Notably, Pioli still holds the distinction of being the youngest recipient of the George Young NFL Executive of the Year Award (38), as recognized by his peers and is also the youngest to receive the PFWA Executive of the Year Award at 37-years old.
Today, Pioli serves as a consultant to companies and organizations on leadership, culture, and team building through his company, 51 Consulting. He continues to work with the NFL, multiple FBS athletic departments and also privately advises professional/college coaches & executives in a variety of sports. Pioli has worked with Alabama and Georgia during National Championship seasons as well as Michigan, LSU, and Notre Dame. Currently he is working with nationally ranked programs Virginia, Utah, and Iowa. He also serves as a consultant in the business sector. He is a highly sought-after speaker for conferences, leadership forums, and panels. and occasional media contributor. Additionally, Pioli and his wife are also investors/owners in the NWSL’s Boston Legacy FC franchise that began play in 2026.
Throughout his tenure in the NFL, Pioli has been a part of consistently initiating and driving change within organizations. He began his career in entry-level positions and worked his way into influential executive positions, including General Manager and Vice President of Player Personnel for teams such as the New England Patriots, Kansas City Chiefs, and Atlanta Falcons. Pioli's exceptional talent identification and mentoring skills have not only shaped the careers of athletes who reached the pinnacle of the sport but have also guided entry-level employees to become successful executives and head coaches.

As part of his work, Pioli is involved in various board affiliations that align with his values. He serves on the Women’s Sports Foundation's Board of Trustees, where he chairs the Finance and Legal Committee, and contributes to RISE as a board member (Ross Initiative in Sports for Equality), and is the co-founder of RISE to Vote, actively promoting non-partisan civic engagement. He is also on the National Advisory Council for Women Leaders in Sports, a national nonprofit organization that empowers women to advance into positions of influence and transform the world of sports through world-class leadership development, career training, and access to a powerful network. Pioli's commitment is also evident through his involvement with the Black College Football Hall of Fame as a board member, the selection committee, and his role as a founding member of the NFL's Bill Walsh Diversity Council. He was named as the 2024 Black College Football HOF Founders Award by founders James "Shack" Harris and Doug Williams.
Moreover, Pioli’s work as Co-Founder and Founding Chair of The John Lewis Institute for Social Justice at Central Connecticut State University demonstrates his commitment to empowering the next generation of leaders striving to address inequality and create meaningful change.
Pioli’s educational background includes a master’s degree from S.I. Newhouse School of Communications at Syracuse University, as well as an undergraduate degree from Central Connecticut State University, where he was a three-time All New England selection as a player.
