John Connaughton

Chair, Bain Capital

John Connaughton is Chair of Bain Capital, a leading global private investment firm with more than $225 billion in assets under management, more than 2,000 employees, and 25 offices across four continents. The firm focuses on a range of asset classes including private equity, credit, venture capital, public equity and real estate. 

John served as Co-Managing Partner from 2016 to 2025 and as Global Head of Bain Capital Private Equity from 2011 to 2024. Since joining the firm in 1989, John has played a leading role in several prominent healthcare and information/media businesses in which Bain Capital Private Equity has made investments. Prior to Bain Capital, he was a strategy consultant at Bain and Company.

Over his tenure with the firm, John has served on dozens of private and public boards, including IQVIA Holdings Inc. (IQV–NYSE). iHeartMedia Inc. (IHRT- OTC), Grupo NotreDame Intermedica (GNDI-BR), HCA Inc. (HCA-NYSE), Warner Chilcott (WCRX-Nasdaq), Warner Music Group (WMG-NYSE), ProSieben Sat.1.Media ag (PBSFY) and Stericycle, Inc. (SRCL- Nasdaq). He is a member of the board and ownership groups of the Baltimore Orioles and the Boston Celtics, and his family is part of the founding ownership group of the NWSL Boston Legacy Football Club.

John is active in a number of charitable and civic activities, including serving as a member of the Mass General Brigham Board of Trustees, Chair and board member of the University of Virginia Investment Management Company (UVIMCO), the McIntire School of Commerce Foundation Board, the GreenLight Fund Board, the Harvard Business School Board of Dean's Advisors, the Nantucket Performing Arts Board (NPAC), and Chair of the Grammy Investment Advisory Board.

John received a B.S. in Commerce with Distinction from the University of Virginia and an M.B.A. with High Distinction from Harvard Business School, where he was a Baker scholar.
