Ryan Wright serves as Special Advisor to the Provost on AI at the University of Virginia and co-directs AI Research @ UVA. He is the Rolls-Royce Commonwealth Eminent Professor at the McIntire School of Commerce, where he directs the Center for the Management of IT. He also co-chairs the Provost’s Committee on AI in Teaching and Learning and the AI Research Committee. He previously served as McIntire’s Senior Associate Dean for Faculty and Research and as Area Coordinator for IT and Innovation. In the Provost’s Office, he works to coordinate, expand, and raise the impact of AI research across the University.

Wright teaches courses in innovation, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity. His teaching is closely aligned with his research, which examines how emerging technologies such as AI shape organizational behavior, decision-making, and societal outcomes.

He has authored more than 80 publications in leading journals, including Nature; MIS Quarterly; and Information Systems Research. His research, teaching, and service have earned awards at the school, university, and disciplinary levels. A frequent keynote speaker at national and international conferences, Wright addresses how AI and innovation are reshaping business and society. His research has been featured in Harvard Business Review, The Washington Post, Forbes, Fast Company, USA Today, Psychology Today, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, and The Australian.
